Long before I knew the word architecture, I was already living it. At six years old, I carefully decided where the doors and windows should go in a Lego house. Years later, in Russia, I stacked concrete blocks with my own hands and built something that felt like a home. It took time to realize that what I had always loved had a name.
I am Hajir Hidaji — an architectural designer, visual artist, and educator based in Calgary, Canada.
Architecture, for me, is more than a profession. It is a dialogue between people and the spaces they inhabit. My interests lie in environmental psychology, human-centered design, and the ways architecture shapes everyday experience through space, light, material, and memory.
My design approach is analytical, systematic, and research-driven. Every project responds to its unique context, climate, culture, function, and human needs. I believe thoughtful design emerges through observation, reflection, and a deep understanding of place.
I founded Hajir Design, leading residential projects from concept development through permit documentation. Before that, I worked with NES Office and co-founded NIAD Office, contributing to architectural design, concept generation, and project development.
Drawing and photography remain essential parts of my creative practice. Through urban sketching and architectural photography, I explore the character, structure, and spatial memory of cities. These disciplines continually inform and strengthen my architectural work.
Alongside professional practice, I teach architecture and design, encouraging observation, curiosity, and critical thinking as foundations for creative development.
I am currently open to residential architecture, interior design collaborations, consultations, and educational workshops in Calgary and beyond.
